Environmentalism is a Religion

I was going to write an extended post about the striking parallels of the environmental movement with judeo-christian beliefs, but this guy already did it. And he's a geologist.

.

I am also working on a list of things blamed on global warming. I found a site that lists 600 news stories

Mass Hysteria

As I have been following the news lately, it has become increasingly clear that the West is plunging itself headlong into mass suicide. How?

We think we can get out of our massive debt-induced economic crisis by what else - going into debt so massive that we can't even conceive of how huge it is. We elect a president who, on the one hand is promising to sign legislation to remove any limit to the number of babies we kill, while on the other has just signed an executive order to release dangerous terrorists bent on our destruction, and this is called "humanitarian." He also promised to put a stop to "aerating villages" but in his first day in office, he ok'd the bombing of a village in Pakistan, which killed at least 18 people. We call war murder but infanticide and euthenasia, "evolved." We accuse the only democracy in the Middle East, the only country with free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of press, women's suffrage, the only country in the Middle East which even attempts to protect human rights, of "violating human rights." At the same time, we are silent about Israel's enemies hiding in schools and hospitals, launching rockets into residential areas.

Thinking about all this, an image came into my mind that I think illustrates the West's thinking:

Rather than stopping and trying to reconcile our contradictory beliefs, increasingly we posses "strikingly irrational beliefs" based on appeals to emotion, rather than the truth. When Denethor thought all was lost, rather than listen to sound reason and change, he killed himself. I fear we are on the same path.

Naked discrimination against Israel

According to the Anti-defamation League Israel has been the target of at least 50 major terrorist attacks since 2002, and thousands of "minor" attacks. In 2008 alone there were "1,571 rockets and 1,531 mortar bombs fired from the Gaza Strip have struck southern Israel since the beginning of the year." (According to the IDF) Note: In June Israel and Hamas signed a cease-fire. Admittedly, there have only been about 800 rocket and mortar attacks on Israel since Hamas "ceased" firing rockets and mortars at Israel (Yet the UK Telegraph's timeline says Israel "broke" the ceasefire in December, 2008).

Israel has been the target of 65 UN resolutions "denouncing" Israel, and exactly ZERO against the Palestinians, Fatah, Hamas, or any of the other minor terrorist organizations in Palestine and the countries that surround Israel, not even against the aggressor nations that attacked Israel on Yom Kippur (the holiest day of the Jewish year) in 1973.

If you listen to the media reports, "It takes courage to criticize Israel's attacks on Gaza" and that Israel started the fighting. In fact the first line in the Guardian article I linked to says, "The Israeli military said it attacked "terrorist infrastructure". Hamas vowed to avenge what it called "the Israeli slaughter" and Palestinian militants responded with rocket salvos that killed an Israeli man and wounded others."
Fact check. The Palestinians terrorists are not responding, they are continuing their attacks.

I've been to Israel twice. Israelis, for the most part, want to live in peace. They want to be able to get on a bus to go to work without fear that they will be murdered by a suicide bomber. They want the ability to work in the yard without being killed by a rocket, a mortar, or a sniper.
I've also been to Egypt. One Egyptian I talked to summed up the majority Arab opinion. He said, "Kill all the Jews." I asked him why. He said, "They deserve to die." I asked why. He said, "Because they are Jews."

For what Hamas wants see this.
It isn't a struggle against oppression. It is a religious war, and for these Muslims, there are no civilians (although hypocritically they decry Israel's "attacks" on "civilians" while using schools and hospitals as launching sites for their rockets and mortars).

If your house was the victim of a drive-by shooting every day for years on end, your neighbors continually vowed to murder you, and the police said, "Well, it's your fault for living there and oppressing those poor gang members" what would you do?

Do not be misled by the media, who scours world events looking for ways to blame the West and its allies for causing terrorism.

By the way, the woman in this picture is pregnant and a mother of 8, and was planning on a suicide attack. She was a "coordinator" for Islamic Jihad, arranging suicide attacks, and had applied to enter Israel for "medical treatment." Thankfully, she was stopped before she could carry out her plan. See the story here.
