I got another interesting flyer in the mail today.
According to thier website, Jehovah's Witnesses, "do not celebrate holidays that have non-Christian religious origins." Because of this Christmas is out. But I guess Easter is in:
"You know, evil comes in many forms, be it a man-eating cow or Joseph Stalin. But you can't let the package hide the pudding. Evil is just plain bad. You don't cotton to it. You gotta smack it on the nose with the rolled up newspaper of goodness. Bad dog! Bad dog!" -The Tick

Wasn't Easter related to the pagan Spring Equonox?
Ma
According to Wikipedia:
"The modern English term Easter developed from the Old English word Eastre, which itself developed prior to 899. The name refers to the goddess Eastre in Germanic paganism, who was celebrated at the Spring equinox, and has cognates in Old High German ōstarūn, plural, Easter (modern German language Ostern). The Old English term Eastre ultimately derives from ēast - meaning the direction of east. This indicates it originally referred to a goddess associated with dawn. Corresponding Indo-European traditions occur with the Roman goddess Aurora and the Greek goddess Eos."
I do think the Passion week, crucifixion, and resurrection occurred at the time of Passover, which would make our celebration of "Easter" at the right time (rather than Christmas - evidence suggests Jesus' birth might have also taken place in the spring or early summer. But I like it in the winter :P ). I guess that might be why JW's are ok with it.
My favorite part is the bit at the bottom, "Parking is free." Gee thanks!
